CONTEXT
Calisthenics athletes want to track and share progress, but lack a system.
Many athletes echo frustrations of wanting to find their best videos of different skills to share them with other athletes or friends.
However, there is no way to organize or share videos of specific skills efficiently in the phone's default camera roll app and differentiate between attempts and unlocked skills.
GOALS
Develop a concept for a platform where athletes can upload their best sets for each unique skill.
Drive opportunities for engagement through social feeds and updates from nearby and followed athletes.
OUTCOMES
Built an information management system for three different categories of calisthenics skills.
Created user interfaces for video upload, skill tracking, social feeds, and athlete profiles.
Encouraged user engagement through elements that communicate skill progress and training status.
CONCEPT
Sthenos is a centralized platform for athletes to track and share their skill progress.

Centralized platforms for athletes
Athletes are able to match their videos directly to skills on a social profile. They can then track their progress and find other athletes in close proximity or skill level to train with.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
The application is designed to be centralized around the canonical skill tree feature, with strong emphasis on the athlete community.

ATHLETE PROFILE

The athlete feed is the primary means of social engagement on the application. Athletes are shown recently uploaded videos and unlocked skills in their follower network and are encouraged to leave positive feedback on their fellow athletes' skills.
DESIGN DECISIONS
The app leans heavily into the calisthenics identity while aligning with typical social media user interfaces.
Clip post cards
The post labels provide immediate context about the nature of the video and skill level, and the athlete is subtly prompted to engage with skill tree progress.
Skill tree
A core implementation for skill and media management, turning calisthenics training into a gamified environment.
Skill Cards
Skill cards connect directly to a user's skill tree and contain data about a user's skills and training clips, as well as status indicators for the user's community.
Message status indicators
Direct messages with status tags drive user engagement and community building.

POSTSCRIPT
Some takeaways from the project:
The core behaviors of calisthenics athletes drove the app's features. While much of the design contains traditional social media layouts, the app was designed around 'gamifying' calisthenics and building a community.
Engagement drivers came primarily from selective decisions rather than large interfaces. Things like training status, skill exploration, and progression charts incentivize athletes to turn training into community building and friendly competition.
